Sample Support Letter

A letter to the Mayor and Casselberry City Commissioners is a fantastic way to show your support for the youth in the Casselberry area who deserve equal access to recreational facilities, outside of the traditional venues like basketball, baseball, biking and tennis.

Feel free to use the sample below to show our elected officials that there is community support for a Casselberry Skatepark.

Dear Mayor Glancy & Commissioners:

As a local Casselberry resident, I encourage you to support the effort to build a skatepark. As an elected official with a history of concern for the community and actively working to make things better for the residents, I feel you would be a great champion of this project.
There are many reasons a skate park is an excellent community investment for Casselberry:
  •  Skateparks are considered to be relatively inexpensive and easy to maintain, while serving a particularly vulnerable age group that is traditionally underserved in our community.

  •  Skateparks become thriving family gathering places. Public skateparks become community spaces where skateboarders learn vital social and life skills, stay healthy and form a unique bond that transcends age, race and socio-economic background.

  • Skateboarding teaches positive life lessons that translate into future success, “When these kids grow older, they may not skate three to six hours a day, but they’ll never forget what it felt like to try a trick 200 times for six days before landing it once, and then trying another 100 times to land it a second time. They’ll never stop noticing stairs and handrails and looking to spot a gap or crack in the cement right where a skater could crouch down and prepare to ollie into a trick.” - 3 Reasons Skateboarders Make Great Entrepreneurs -  Entrepeneur

Please work to identify public funds and grants that will help The City of Casselberry build a skatepark and improve our community. Please keep close tabs on the progress to remove friction in the permitting process, free up resources and otherwise facilitate the efforts to build this much needed community skatepark.

Thank you for your continued efforts to improve our community through parks and recreation.

Sincerely,

[your name]
